History
The CompleNet conference is a premier international forum dedicated to the study and advancement of complex networks. Since its inception in 2009, the conference has annually brought together researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts from diverse fields such as physics, computer science, biology, and social sciences. CompleNet serves as a platform for sharing cutting-edge research, fostering collaborations, and exploring the multifaceted applications of network science in understanding complex systems.
Over the years, CompleNet has been hosted in various locations around the globe, reflecting its international reach and interdisciplinary nature. The conference began in Catania, Italy, in 2009 and has since been held in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2010); Melbourne, FL, USA (2012); Berlin, Germany (2013); Bologna, Italy (2014); New York City, NY, USA (2015); Dijon, France (2016); Dubrovnik, Croatia (2017); Boston, MA, USA (2018); Tarragona, Spain (2019); and Exeter, UK (2020, although the event was canceled due to COVID-19). In response to the pandemic, CompleNet successfully temporarily transitioned to an online format for its 2020, 2021, and 2022 editions through the “CompleNet Live” series; this was a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2023 conference returned as an in-place event and it was hosted by the University of Aveiro in Portugal. In 2024, it returned to Exeter, UK, hosted by the University of Exeter. Looking ahead, the 2025 edition is scheduled to take place in Fortaleza, Brazil, continuing the tradition of fostering global collaboration in the complex networks community.
