How to find the Conference Location
The best way to get to the conference location is using Uber or other ride apps. Brazil has another app called 99 which is more affordable than Uber but we would recommend Uber as it is more secure. The location has parking so if you're driving it should not be a problem finding a parking space.

There is only one auditorium in the venue so it will not be hard to locate it.
Casa José de Alencar features three cultural facilities that welcome public visits. These facilities comprise the Arthur Ramos Museum, which highlights historical and cultural artefacts, the Floriano Teixeira Art Gallery, showcasing regional and national artwork, and the Iracema Hall, dedicated to exhibitions and special events.

How to get to Fortaleza

Flight Options
  • Fortaleza is located on the northeastern coast of Brazil and is served by its own international airport, Pinto Martins – Fortaleza International Airport (FOR). Many airlines fly directly to Fortaleza from within Brazil and from a growing number of international hubs. Carriers serving Fortaleza include Gol, LATAM, Azul, TAP Air Portugal, Air France, KLM, and others; check each airline’s route map for current connections
  • If you are flying from other cities in Brazil, you can generally find frequent direct flights to Fortaleza from major hubs such as São Paulo (GRU, CGH), Rio de Janeiro (GIG, SDU), Brasília (BSB), and Belo Horizonte (CNF). Flight times vary, but most take between two and four hours, depending on your departure point.
  • From Europe, there are direct or one-stop flights via Lisbon (TAP Air Portugal) and additional connections through Paris (Air France) or Amsterdam (KLM). If you are travelling from North America, you might connect through São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro although the company Gol has recently started a direct flight from Orlando.
  • We recommend you use SkyScanner for searching for flights

Alternative Airports
  • While Fortaleza has the largest airport in the region, another option (though less common for international travellers) is a transfer from nearby regional airports. Some travellers opt to fly into Recife (REC) (about 800 km south of Fortaleza) and then continue by domestic flight or long-distance bus. However, if your final destination is indeed Fortaleza, it is usually more convenient to fly there directly.

Domestic Connections
If you land in other major Brazilian airports (e.g., São Paulo–Guarulhos, Rio de Janeiro–Galeão), you can catch a domestic flight to Fortaleza. Flight frequency is high, so it’s relatively easy to find a suitable connecting flight.

Because of its popularity as a tourist destination (famed for its beaches, lively culture, and proximity to other northeastern attractions) Fortaleza is typically well-connected year-round. Always consult airline websites or online travel agencies for up-to-date routes and schedules, as these can change seasonally. CompleNet is taking place during a low season so prices should be more affordable.

Getting from the Airport to the City
Pinto Martins – Fortaleza International Airport is located just a few miles from the city centre. You can reach central Fortaleza by:
  • Taxi or Rideshare: Easy to find outside the arrivals area. We recommend you use an Uber app. Do not accept offers of Uber at the airport. Only get your Uber from the app. Also, do not accept offers for taxis from random people. Get the taxi at the designed and signed locations.
  • You can pay for Uber using your credit card from the app. Do not pay the driver directly. When taking a taxi, passengers should ensure that the official fare meter is activated. Some taxis do not accept credit card.
  • Airport Bus: Several lines operate between the airport and different parts of the city. We do not recommend you get a bus unless you are very familiar with the city and have experience of travelling in Fortaleza.
  • Car Rental: Major rental companies have counters at the airport if you plan to explore beyond Fortaleza.

Accommodation

We would like to inform you that we are currently not working with any official hotel, travel agency, or company for the provision of accommodations or travel arrangements. Should we decide to partner with a hotel or travel service in the future, the relevant information will be published here.

Please note the following important warning: No one other than the event organizers listed on this site is authorized to speak on behalf of this event. If you are contacted by anyone claiming to represent the conference or offering hotel, travel, or related services, it is definitely unauthorized and should be considered spam. All official communication will come directly from [email protected] or one of the event organizers.

We ask that you disregard any such unsolicited contacts and always rely on verified sources for event-related information.

We are not working with any specific hotels and attendees are requested to decide the accommodation that best fit their preferences. We recommend people try looking for hotels and information using websites specialised in reviewing hotels such as:
  • Tripadvisor
  • Hotels.com
The conference venue is not near any major hotels so we do not recommend attendees to stay around that area. There are a few motels around the venue but we do not recommend them for a stay.

In Brazil, the concept of a “motel” often differs from what many international travellers might expect. These establishments are traditionally designed for short-term stays, frequently catering to couples seeking privacy, rather than offering the extended lodging services found in typical hotels. This cultural nuance means that motels usually prioritize brief, discreet visits with specialised amenities, rather than serving as long-term accommodations. We kindly recommend doing a bit of research or asking for guidance about the nature of a motel before booking, to ensure it aligns with your needs. By understanding this aspect of Brazilian culture, you can choose accommodations that best match your expectations and avoid any misunderstandings during your stay.

Recommended Areas (Neighbourhoods)
Fortaleza offers a range of neighbourhoods that are popular for visitors due to their safety, proximity to attractions, and variety of accommodation options. While personal preferences will guide the best choice for each traveller, here are some of the most recommended areas to consider when choosing a hotel:

Praia de Iracema
A vibrant area known for its beachfront promenade, bars, and restaurants. Staying here places you close to nightlife, cultural sites, and the ocean. It’s a lively neighbourhood with a mix of modern hotels and charming guest houses.

Meireles
Situated just north of Praia de Iracema, Meireles is one of Fortaleza’s most upscale neighbourhoods. It boasts luxury hotels, shopping areas, and a stunning seaside view along its promenades. It’s ideal for those who want a mix of relaxation, dining options, and proximity to the beach.

Aldeota
A more residential and tranquil area, Aldeota offers upscale accommodations and is known for its safety, shopping centres, and proximity to restaurants. While not directly on the beach, it provides a quieter environment with good access to other parts of the city via taxi or public transportation.

Mucuripe
Closer to the port and known for its seafood restaurants, Mucuripe provides a more local experience. While it’s not as touristic as other areas, it can be a good choice for visitors looking for a quieter stay and a taste of local life, albeit with limited hotel options compared to Meireles or Praia de Iracema.

Beira Mar Avenue area
Along the beachfront, this stretch encompasses parts of Meireles and Iracema and offers numerous hotels with ocean views. It’s excellent for beach goers, food lovers, and those looking to be at the heart of the action.

Porto das Dunas
A picturesque coastal destination located just a short drive north of Fortaleza, in the municipality of Aquiraz, Ceará, Brazil. Known for its expansive sandy beaches, lush dunes, and clear green waters, it offers a tranquil escape while remaining conveniently close to urban amenities. Note that access from Porto das Dunas is a bit harder, as it is not as well served by Uber and Taxis.

Tips for Choosing
  • Safety: Check recent reviews to ensure the neighbourhood is safe, especially if you plan to explore at night.
  • Access: Consider proximity to public transportation or ease of access by taxi.
  • Amenities: Look for accommodations that meet your needs in terms of facilities, services, and budget.
  • Purpose of Visit: If your primary focus is beach time, neighbourhoods like Meireles or Praia de Iracema are ideal. For a quieter stay, consider Aldeota.
  • All the neighbourhoods above have a similar distance to Casa José de Alencar

Remember that Fortaleza is a large city, so it’s helpful to review recent travel guides, hotel reviews, and maps to select the neighbourhood that best fits your preferences and travel plans during CompleNet

Cocktail, Embaixada da Cachaça, (Tuesday. April 23 2025, @ 8pm)

We are pleased to announce that the conference cocktail on Tuesday, April 23, will be held at Embaixada da Cachaça in Fortaleza, Brazil. This authentic Brazilian establishment celebrates cachaça, Brazil's national spirit distilled from fermented sugarcane juice. Dating back to the year 1532, cachaça predates rum and is deeply intertwined with Brazilian culture and history. Once considered a drink of the working class, cachaça has evolved into a celebrated spirit, with over 4,000 producers across Brazil creating distinctive regional varieties.

The evening will feature live Brazilian music to enhance the authentic atmosphere as you explore the rich cultural heritage of cachaça. Attendees will enjoy a guided tasting of four distinct cachaças, accompanied by bottled water and detailed explanations from the owner about the artisanal production process that has been perfected over generations. You'll learn about the unique characteristics of each variety being sampled, from the smooth white cachaças to the complex aged varieties that develop their distinctive flavours in wooden barrels.

We kindly remind all participants that cachaça is a potent spirit, typically ranging from 38% to 45% alcohol by volume. While the tasting portions are designed to provide a sensory experience rather than intoxication, we encourage attendees to exercise personal judgment regarding their consumption. Feel free to pace yourself, skip samples as desired, or simply enjoy the aroma and presentation of certain varieties if you prefer not to consume all four samples. Your comfort and responsible enjoyment of this cultural experience are our priority.

About the Venue
Founded in December 2014 by the passionate couple Altino and Gorette, Embaixada da Cachaça arose from their realization that Fortaleza lacked a specialized establishment dedicated to Brazil's genuine national spirit, which dates back to 1532. They created this unique venue to fill this market niche, establishing a specialized shop offering quality cachaças with an impressive variety of labels from various regions across Brazil.

Beyond functioning as a retail space and bar, the Embaixada has evolved into a vibrant social hub that attracts a clientele of high intellectual calibre. As the founders often say, the Embaixada is a "space of coexistence" where kindred spirits from the arts community—poets, musicians, visual artists, artisans, and cultural producers—gather regularly. These gatherings naturally foster new friendships, inspire creative ideas, and spark collaborative projects, all enhanced by generous servings of fine cachaça. The establishment proudly fulfils its mission of providing novel experiences to enthusiasts while disseminating knowledge about this traditional Brazilian spirit—a mission the owners carry out with immense pleasure.

Allergies Advisory
Please note that the Embaixada da Cachaça is a small, family-owned local establishment with limited resources and expertise regarding dietary restrictions. The venue has no ability or knowledge to cater for different food allergies or special dietary requirements. We strongly advise attendees with food allergies or strict dietary needs to carefully assess this situation and make their own informed decision about attending based on their personal health requirements.

Social Dinner, Churrascaria Sal e Brasa
(Wednesday. April 24 2025 @ 8pm)

We are pleased to announce that the conference dinner on Wednesday, April 24, will be held at Churrascaria Sal e Brasa Fortaleza, Brazil. Sal e Brasa, meaning "Salt and Ember" in Portuguese, embodies the essence of authentic Brazilian churrasco tradition in the heart of Fortaleza. The restaurant specializes in "rodízio," a unique Brazilian dining experience where passadores (meat carvers) continuously circulate among tables, offering an endless parade of freshly grilled meats carved directly onto guests' plates. This centuries-old tradition celebrates Brazil's gaucho heritage, transforming dining into a communal feast of abundance and flavour. Complementing the premium meats is a lavish buffet filled with an impressive array of fresh salads, artisanal cheeses, seafood specialties, and even expertly crafted sushi; creating a harmonious balance to the rich, fire-roasted churrasco. At Sal e Brasa, the warm, sophisticated ambiance complements the theatrical nature of the rodízio service, creating an atmosphere where the primal connection between fire, meat, and hospitality comes alive. Visitors experience not just a meal but a cultural journey through Brazil's culinary landscape, from the premium cuts of picanha to the delicate preparation of traditional side dishes, all showcasing the rich gastronomic tapestry of northeastern Brazil and the hospitable spirit of Ceará. We recommend attendees to arrive between 7:30 and 7:45pm. Please check with the registration desk if your registration includes the social dinner.

Allergies Advisory
We have communicated all reported dietary restrictions and allergies to our selected restaurant for the conference dinner. However, we want to inform our attendees that, as is common in Fortaleza, while restaurants can prepare dishes without specific allergens, they may not have dedicated preparation areas or protocols to prevent cross-contamination. While the restaurant will make every effort to accommodate dietary needs, we encourage participants with severe allergies or strict dietary requirements to carefully consider their personal comfort level and make an informed decision about their participation based on their specific needs.

Given that Sal e Brasa is a rodízio-style restaurant featuring an extensive buffet, we anticipate there will be options to accommodate various dietary preferences. The diverse selection typically ensures choices for most attendees. However, we emphasize that the restaurant staff may not be fully versed in handling severe allergic reactions or specialized dietary protocols. For those with life-threatening allergies or strict dietary requirements, we recommend assessing your individual risk tolerance, as restaurants in Fortaleza generally do not maintain the allergen awareness practices that may be standard in other locations. People should also look for one of the main organisers if they have questions and they will try to talk to the restaurant staff.
